How We Review Listings
Listings on Experts.ca are gathered from public sources. Listings our team has checked against the business's own information are marked Reviewed listing. Not all listings have been reviewed yet. A business can also apply for a Verified badge, a separate credential check with the relevant Canadian regulator.
Two levels of review
Listings start from public sources. Here is what the “Reviewed listing” mark means — and what the optional Verified badge adds.
A listing carries this mark after our team has checked it against the business's own information. Listings without the mark have not been reviewed yet.
- The business exists and appears to be operating
- Contact details and website match what the business publishes
- The location matches what the business publishes
- Public Google ratings are shown where available
A business can apply for a Verified badge. We cross-reference its licence and credentials with the relevant Canadian regulator before it's granted.
- Active provincial/territorial registration confirmed
- Licence cross-referenced with the governing regulator
- Active status checked — not just past registration
What a Verified check looks like
When a business earns a Verified badge, its credentials are cross-referenced with the regulator that governs its trade or profession.
- Lawyers & notaries
- Checked against the Law Society of Ontario, Barreau du Québec, Law Society of British Columbia, and provincial equivalents.
- Electricians, HVAC, gasfitters
- Cross-checked with the Ontario Electrical Safety Authority, BC Safety Authority, and Quebec's Régie du bâtiment (RBQ).
- Doctors, dentists, physiotherapists
- Confirmed in the College of Physicians and Surgeons registry for their province; same for the Royal College of Dental Surgeons.
- Real estate agents, mortgage brokers
- Listed in RECO (Ontario), OACIQ (Quebec), or BCFSA — checked against active licence status, not just past registration.
- Plumbers, contractors, roofers
- Active provincial business licence + valid WSIB / CSST / WorkSafeBC coverage where required for the trade and province.
- Reviewed listings
- Without the badge, a “Reviewed listing” mark means our team checked the business and its contact details against the business's own information.
Being listed isn't pay-to-play. The Verified badge is a separate, optional credential a business can apply for.
How listings are reviewed
Listing review
Listings start from public sources. When our team reviews a listing, we check it against the business's own information and mark it “Reviewed listing”. Not all listings have been reviewed yet.
- Business exists and is operating
- Contact details and website match the business's own information
- Location matches the business's own information
Verified badge (optional)
Businesses that want to stand out can apply for a Verified badge. We confirm their registration and cross-reference their licence with the regulator that governs their trade or profession.
- Provincial/territorial registration confirmed
- Licence cross-referenced with the regulator
- Active status — not just past registration
Keeping listings accurate
Listings can change. When a review finds a difference we correct it, and when it finds a business has closed we take the listing down — and you can flag anything that looks wrong.
- Details corrected when a review finds a difference
- Closed businesses taken down when a review finds them
- Flag anything that looks wrong
Why this matters to Canadians
In a country as vast as Canada, finding a local business you can reach shouldn't be left to chance. Accurate listings — and a clear, earned Verified badge — make the choice easier.
Surfacing local businesses helps strengthen Canadian communities from Newfoundland to British Columbia.
A “Reviewed listing” has been checked against the business's own information, so the business you find is the business you reach.
The Verified badge means a business's licence has been cross-referenced with its Canadian regulator — not self-declared.
List your business — or earn a Verified badge
Add your business to the directory, then apply for a Verified badge when you're ready to show customers your credentials have been checked.
